Common Causes of Bad Breath

Life is a continuous journey with its ups, downs and sometimes curves. Having bad breath is listed as one of the curves because if you are not aware you have bad breath most people will not come up and tell you. When you are fortunate enough to have someone tell you about this issue consider yourself special. Learning you have bad breath may be embarrassing however it forces you to address the issue of what is causing you to have bad breath. You may think to yourself, why me, and what is the cause of my bad breath?

Causes of Bad Breath

The majority of people claim to have their worst breath in the morning when they first wake up. They immediately brush the foul taste from their mouth get dressed and start their day. To them this is a way of life and no thought is given to the reason for having morning breath or to the fact that most will eat breakfast after they have brushed their teeth. This routine may be okay for the first few hours of the day but when you add snacks, coffee, lunch and maybe deserts, the smell of bad breath may return and cause those working with you to search for distance.

You may experience bad breath after you have eaten a delicious meal that has garlic and onions. This cause of bad breath is called situational. What you have eaten, drank or smoked may be detected in your breath and can be removed with regular cleaning and mouthwash. This situation is temporary and can be readily corrected.

Occasional bad breath is normally linked to poor oral hygiene or underlying dental issues that have not been addressed. Halitosis is from bacteria growing in your mouth and living in a rich environment for continued duplication. Attempts to mask the smell with breath mints, sprays and gums will be short lived and will not mask the odor for any length of time.

Most people who suffer from what is called chronic bad breath have the worst cases of halitosis even though they may have good oral hygiene habits. Chronic bad breath is characterized by a continual smelly aroma that emanates from your mouth and/or nose. People who suffer with chronic bad breath may not know about their condition or may not know what to do about their condition.

The most common cause of bad breath is from a bacterium that is naturally present in your mouth and feed off the food particles that remain in your mouth after you have eaten. These particles are lodged between your teeth, gum lines and on your tongue. Your warm wet mouth provides an excellent environment for these bacteria to grow and increase the foul odor of bad breath.
One of the ways to effectively fight this situation is to carry a good toothbrush with you at all times. Select a brush that will get in between your teeth and message the gums and tongue. Make sure you pay attention to the insides and back of your teeth also. Brush for three to five minutes after every meal and also brush your tongue too. Please keep in mind that all toothpaste is not equal and use the one your dentist recommends.

As common cures for bad breath, look for products that have baking soda and peroxide as their main ingredients. These two products can help prevent the cause of bad breath and allow you to feel more confident in knowing your breath is clean when you are when you are having face to face conversations.
